Section of National Exhibitions
The largest section of the PQ that traditionally attracts the greatest attention enabled a total of 48 countries to exhibit their works – in total almost 500 artists participated in this exhibition. The presentation of the scenographic work should have been appropriate for the theme and included not only stage objects, elements of the design process, and documentary evidence, but also live performances, various media, and other forms of presentations. The theme of the exhibition was to have reflected the scenographic work of the national or foreign theatre artists working in that country over the past five years.
Just like the theme, no formal shape of the exhibition was predetermined. The Golden Triga was awarded not only to the best theme, but also the best presentation of the THEME. The shape of the section was thus very diverse – from monothematic exhibitions and retrospective showcases to exhibitions that displayed nothing, but accommodated a series of live discussions and presentations instead. The national curators and creators of the exhibitions truly reacted to the organizers´ suggestion to incorporate live events, and the National Section became more than an
exhibition – it became a living space where something was always happening – a real showcase of contemporary theatre.
A traditional part of the PQ has always been the Days of Countries and Regions that included celebrations and invitations to the exhibitions, as well as lectures and performances. A major part of the expositions included interactive elements designed for the active involvement of the visitors; new media was abundantly used in these presentations.
